Welcome to Skookum Works!
My name is Jacob, and I am the founder and innovator behind our products here at Skookum Works.
The products I design are inspired by my experiences as an active member of our local Search and Rescue team, in Squamish, BC, Canada. Squamish is known as the “outdoor recreation capital of Canada” and with our close proximity to Vancouver, we receive over 100 calls each year. Our Squamish Search and Rescue team is comprised of volunteers who dedicate countless hours to training and responding to calls. I am part of a few specialized disciplines including Helicopter External Transport Systems (H.E.T.S.), technical rope rescue, avalanche response and a drone operator.
I came up with the idea for our first product "The Knob Blocker" after hanging under the long line of a helicopter and having accidentally bumped the volume down to the lowest setting on my two-way portable radio. This resulted in not being able to hear anything without realizing it, which was a serious safety concern. After getting home from the call, I got to work and designed a solution. Then came up with a funny name that makes people smile.

Professional Background
My professional background is in IT infrastructure, and in my spare time I like to learn new things and solve problems. My tinkering has lead me to gain experience using CAD modelling and 3D printing to build rapid prototypes, which has become very useful when experimenting with new design concepts and making our products.
The beauty of 3D printing our products allows me listen to customers feedback, make improvements quickly and launch new and improved versions immediately.
My goal is to make cool stuff that solves problems.
