The Hot Mic Version 1.3 - Release notes
Release Date – Jan 6, 2024
What’s New - Choice of Material - Our Hot Mics are now made with TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane).
What’s fixed - Using TPU instead of PETG allows the Hot Mic to easily flex over your speaker mic, then return to its original state to provide a snug fit. We take our customers feedback seriously. After hearing a few Hot Mics developed cracks when installing and removing them, we tested several new materials and landed on TPU. The inspiration for TPU came from our ski boots, which use flexible plastic to allow for your foot to slip on easily, then returns to its original form to provide the rigidity you need for top performance.
What’s improved - Rounded edges, minor fit changes, only available in black
Why we made the Hot Mic
Our founder is a member of our local Squamish Search and Rescue team. The idea came after noticing how often the speaker mic is keyed by accident by various members of the team. This can be a common issue, especially for people who wear a lot of bulky gear such as backpacks and winter clothing. Blocking transmission for others by accidentally pushing your PTT button can be safety concern, as well as annoying for others, not to mention potentially embarrassing for you.
Not wanting to be unsuspecting “ Hot Mic” on the crew, he created a Push to Talk button guard for the speaker mic. The Hot Mic prevents accidental pressing of the PTT button on a speaker mic.
The Hot Mic guard is Designed for
Industries that use two-way portable radios and speaker microphones: emergency responders (police, fire, paramedics, search and rescue), security, ski patrol, manufacturing, utility companies, forestry, transportation and hospitality.
The Hot Mic Guard Product features
Prevents accidentally pressing the Push to Talk button and blocking radio communication on the channel
Prevents embarrassment from being “The Hot Mic”
Still allows for easily pressing PTT button when needed
Easy to attach and remove
Available in black (custom colors available upon request)
Material
We use TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) a thermoplastic material for 3D printing The Hot Mic. TPU has high wear resistance and resilience. It also offers good compression, and durability. TPU has superior tear strength, high elasticity and is resistance to water, oil, grease, fuel, solvent, chemicals and elevated temperatures. It is easily washed and sterilesed. And TPU recyclable.
