Why We Made It
The Hot Mic was created to solve a common field communication problem.
Our founder, a member of Squamish Search and Rescue, noticed how often speaker mics were accidentally keyed by team members, especially when wearing bulky gear such as backpacks, harnesses, jackets, and winter clothing.
Accidental PTT activation can tie up a radio channel, block important transmissions, broadcast unintended audio, and create safety concerns in demanding environments. It can also be frustrating and embarrassing for the person who unknowingly keyed their mic.
The Hot Mic was designed as a simple physical guard around the push-to-talk button, helping reduce accidental activation while still allowing the user to press the button when they need to speak.

Materials
The Hot Mic is 3D printed from TPU, a flexible and resilient thermoplastic material.
TPU is well suited for this product because it offers excellent wear resistance, flexibility, tear strength, and durability. It also provides good resistance to water, oil, grease, fuel, solvents, many chemicals, and elevated temperatures.
TPU is washable and recyclable.
